Even though 2020 has been a different year for in-person arts opportunities, the good news is that now there are better systems in place for handling art exhibitions and opportunities mid-pandemic. Exhibitions, residencies, grants, and more are still happening safely in the art world again, we don’t want you to miss out.

So, we’ve made a list for you with the best opportunities for artists with deadlines coming up in November.

VISION 2020

The Mid-South Sculpture Alliance is proud to announce a grant for BIPOC sculptors living and working in the United States. Sculpture is an expensive craft. VISION 2020 has been created to support BIPOC artists in their creative endeavors and promote their expression that may have been previously unachievable without financial support. 

WHO: Mid-career sculptors who identify as Black, Indigenous, or as a person of color

AMOUNT: Up to $2,000

DEADLINE: October 31, 2020

FINE PRINT: Awards will be granted based upon the applicant's portfolio. While applicants are not required to submit information on how they might use the funds, MSA expects the recipients to dedicate the funds towards expanding their ability to create new work. Funds may not be used to support academic research or study toward an academic or professional degree. Learn more here.

 

American Scandinavian Foundation Grants

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $23,000) and grants (up to $5,000) to individuals to pursue research, study or creative arts projects in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year. Grants are considered suitable for post-graduate scholars, professionals, and candidates in the arts to carry out research or study visits of one to three months duration. Fellowships are intended to support a year-long stay.  Priority is given to candidates at the graduate level for dissertation-related study or research. The number of awards varies each year according to total funds available. Awards are made in all fields.

WHO: United States citizens/permanent residents, emerging and mid-career artists

DATES: Fellowship up to one year and grants one-three months

LOCATION: One or more Scandinavian country 

DEADLINE: November 1, 2020

FINE PRINT: Projects should not begin before April 15th. The awards support project-related costs, including maintenance, trans- Atlantic round-trip travel, in-country travel, tuition and fees (where applicable) and materials expenditures (e.g., books, photocopying, art supplies). ASF awards may require supplementation from other sources, but they should not duplicate the benefits of additional awards (and vice versa). Candidates must notify ASF if they have received other award offers. ASF will not provide funds if, in its judgment, a proposal can be carried out without its assistance. Learn more here.

 

Artadia Awards

Artadia is a national non-profit organization that supports visual artists with unrestricted, merit-based awards and fosters connections to a network of opportunities. In the past 18 years, Artadia has awarded over $5 million to more than 333 artists throughout its participating award cities of Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.

WHO: All visual artists living and working in the current award city of Houston, TX

AMOUNT: $10,000

DEADLINE: November 15, 2020

FINE PRINT: Students are not eligible. Award money can be used however the artist sees fit. Continued support is achieved through close collaborations with its host cities to create exhibition opportunities for artists, arrange studio visits with local as well as national curators, source residency programs, and make introductions in the field. $1,000 Grants - All Media Eligible

The Hopper Prize is now accepting entries for our Fall 2020 artist grants. We are offering 5 grants in the amount of $1,000 USD awarded through an open call art competition juried by leading contemporary curators. This is an international open call. All media is eligible.

FINE PRINT: 5 artists will each receive $1,000.00 USD in unrestricted grant awards. 30 artists will have their work archived at hopperprize.org. Boynes Emerging Artist Award 3rd Edition

The Boynes Emerging Artist Award is an independent, international online art competition with a prize pool of over $15,000 USD and completely artist-run. There is no set theme for our competition, we simply require you to submit the best in your portfolio. Our goal is to give artists a platform for their work, and exposure for emerging artists everywhere.

6th Annual Leaves & Petals Art Competition

Both 2D and 3D artists, worldwide, are invited to submit their best art depicting flowers, leaves, herbs, plants, shrubs, bushes, hedges and other botanical or floral subjects. 1000 Kites Activation

1000 Kites seeks artists to submit a kite as an art object to participate in an outdoor activation taking place in Miami Beach. Artists are invited to make their own kites and encouraged to experiment and play with the boundaries and significance of this unique object as an art form.

SE Center Open

The SE Center is looking for images of any theme, media, digital, analog, or antique processes that show your best work. 35-40 Selected images will hang in the SE Center’s main gallery space for approximately one month with the opportunity to be invited for a solo show at a later date.

Myseum Intersections is an annual festival that will take place during the month of April 2022. The festival explores intersectional perspectives of Toronto through collaborative exhibits, events, and experiences. Intersections presents a wide array of programming intended to create dialogue on civic issues and inspire a deeper knowledge and appreciation of our city.

Now in its seventh year, the Walter Feldman Fellowship for Emerging Artists supports the professional careers of visual artists through a solo exhibition or alternative presentation of work and curatorial and professional development support, including expert guidance on improving business skills for the effective presentation and promotion of your work.

2020 Photography

Las Laguna Gallery is looking for works by photographers. Las Laguna Gallery invites artists working in all photographic mediums to submit images to be considered for an exhibition. The theme for this Call for Entry is “open.”

Fusion Art is now accepting entries for the 11th Artist Spotlight Solo Art Competition. Artist Spotlight highlights individual artists who have an overall body of work to showcase. From this competition Fusion Art will select up to 12 winning artists - four traditional artists, four digital & photography artists and four 3-dimensional artists (if the gallery has received 3-dimensional entries) for individual month-long solo art exhibitions on the Fusion Art website starting in December 2020.

NYC4PA Call for Entry – Black and White 2020

It is time for NYC4PA to revisit one of our favorite themes, Black and White. It is our homage to the beginnings of photography before the dramatic change that came about when color film was introduced. Send your monochrome images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in shades from white to dark. Submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, etc.).

CPSA Explore This! 17 2021 Online Exhibition

Explore This! is a juried show with cash and product awards. Entries must be predominantly colored pencil, but also include other media or attributes that would make them ineligible for the CPSA International Exhibition.

36th Annual International Exhibition

The 36th Annual International Exhibition is a juried visual art competition organized by the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Tyler. Internationally known artists, curators, and scholars have served as jurors selecting works for exhibition created by some of the best contemporary artists working today. The Department purchases three to six works from the exhibition each year; purchased works are added to our permanent collection. The permanent collection serves as an educational teaching resource; much of the permanent collection is exhibited throughout the UT Tyler main campus.

Wassaic Project 2021 Summer Exhibition and Publication Open Call

The Wassaic Project is currently holding our annual Open Call for our 2021 Summer Exhibition and publication for artists of all mediums — including 2D, sculpture, video, new media, site-specific installation, performance, text, poems, essays, publication-specific work. If selected, your work will be showcased alongside a diverse range of pieces and performances in and around historic Maxon Mills, as well as in a printed publication.

Alone/ Together is a paradox. 2020 has united and divided the world. There are schisms within our culture that are widening. Shear Madness: Juried Collage Exhibition

Northville Art House presents Shear Madness, calling artists 18 and over to submit original collage works of art composed by arranging and gluing or otherwise affixing pieces of paper, fabric, photographs or other mixed media to a surface.

Gallery Without Walls 2021

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego is pleased to invite artist submissions of up to three works of art per artist for outdoor public display in Lake Oswego’s nationally recognized, award-winning outdoor Gallery Without Walls exhibit. In its twenty first year, this program’s mission is to integrate art into the daily lives of local residents and visitors to the community by presenting works from regional, national, and international artists that resonate with people of diverse backgrounds.

DATES: Artists can submit completed works as well as proposals for new works to be completed by installation in August of 2021. Artwork will be on display throughout the downtown business district for a two-year exhibition period starting in the summer of 2021 and ending in the summer of 2023.

FINE PRINT: Up to fifteen artists will be chosen by the Selection Committee to display in Lake Oswego. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1000. Downtown Arts Collective is now accepting submissions for an exhibition exploring emerging trends in contemporary street photography.

Abstracts

J. Mane Gallery invites submissions for its 3rd Abstracts online juried art exhibition. Abstract art uses the visual language of shapes, form, color and texture to create a composition that is independent from visual references in the world. It can mean anything in an artist’s emotional life they want it to mean. It awakens our curiosity as viewers about the limits of our imagination. Submit work that best represents your interpretation of Abstract art.

Artists Sunday

Artists Sunday is the free nationwide movement and marketing campaign encouraging consumers to shop with artists and craftsmen. Our goal is simple: to help artists sell more of their work during the fall holiday season. Artists Sunday is an art-focused shopping day the first Sunday after Thanksgiving, the largest shopping weekend of the year. Think of it like Black Friday or Small Business Saturday but for the arts.

Arizona Aqueous XXXV

A national juried exhibition hosted by Tubac Center of the Arts. Water based pigments on paper must constitute the major portion of the work. Entries composed of paper constructions, paper sculpture, paper collage, cut paper, mobiles or two or three dimensional wall pieces, and installations are eligible. Artists are urged to enter work which is innovative in concept and approach, whether representational or abstract.

Represent: New Portraiture National Juried Exhibition

Portraiture has always been about more than just creating a record of an individual’s appearance. How do we understand what it means to represent, or re-present a person or place? We invite proposals of both contemporary and traditional pieces that create a visually-compelling complement, or counterpoint, to Barrett Art Center’s 1840s Greek Revival townhouse interior.

Officine Saffi Award 4

Officine Saffi awards those artists who have chosen ceramics as their main expressive language for a research between contemporary art, collectible design and craft. Now in its fourth edition, the competition is open to all contemporary artists and designers of any age, whether emerging or established, individuals or members of collectives, and with no restrictions on theme, gender or nationality. Up for grabs € 10,000 and 8 Residency prizes.

WHO: Ceramic artists worldwide

LOCATION: Residency prize locations include: The Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, and Finland

DEADLINE: November 30, 2020

FINE PRINT: During registration, each artist must indicate which residency prizes they intend to compete for (all prizes are open to them). Nevertheless, if an artist wins a residency award that they cannot take up for proven reasons, the partner will assign it to another finalist. 2021-2022 Studio and Curatorial Fellowships

Each June, NXTHVN welcomes up to seven artists, two curators, and eight New Haven high school students to its annual Fellowship and Apprenticeship programs. Through a proprietary curriculum that focuses on mentorship, professional development, and skills training, members of the cohort cultivate their individual practices within a collaborative, community-driven context.

FINE PRINT: NXTHVN’s year-long Fellowships provides: a generous stipend disbursed quarterly throughout the Fellowship year, which runs from early June to late May, optional, partially-subsidized housing, dedicated work and/or studio space with 24-hour access, and more. Fellows are expected to: complete the entire 11-month residency program, relocate to New Haven, to spend at least five hours per week mentoring a high school apprentice. Entry fee: $35. Alaskan AIR: Bunnell Street Arts Center Artist in Residence Program

Bunnell Street Arts Center presents an Artist in Residence program for International, US, or Alaska artists to create artwork exploring community engagement and creative placemaking. Bunnell sparks artistic inquiry, innovation and equity to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of Alaska. Proposals may address relevant themes such as accessibility, equity & inclusion, decolonization, sustainability, anti-racism, skills sharing and exchange, community wellbeing, connection between local and global communities, and more.

DATES: Residencies will be scheduled by mutual agreement between the Artist and Bunnell in 2022. Residencies are generally not available in June, July, or August.

Parse Seco Artist in Residence

Parse Seco invites underrepresented emerging artists from all over the world to experience this immersive residency experience. By providing emerging artists with gallery and work space, housing, curatorial and entrepreneurial training as well as the opportunity to work within a strong artist community, the residency aims to advance the artistic ambitions and opportunities of artists in residence. The program aims to guide and mentor those who may not view artistic expression or artistic professions as obtainable due to their race, sexual orientation, subject matter, or income class.
