Featured Artist Lisa-Marie Price creates work that reflects her unique journey as an artist.
Based in Hertfordshire, UK, Lisa creates her work using handmade watercolors crafted from foraged Earth pigments, allowing nature to serve as both her inspiration and her medium. Her abstract paintings explore themes of climate change, mindfulness, and the importance of grounding ourselves in the present moment.
Through delicate brush strokes and a quiet calmness, Lisa invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with the natural world and the urgency of protecting it. "My work promotes eco-consciousness and the significance of valuing Earth's resources," she shares.
Each piece this eco-conscious artist creates tells a story drawn from urban or rural landscapes, encouraging us to contemplate our environmental impact and rally together for a sustainable future.

Lisa-Marie Price’s Creative Process is Rooted in Connection with Nature
Lisa-Marie Price begins her creative process by tuning into nature. She explains, “I like to immerse myself in the present moment, noticing life’s simple beauty—a shadow dancing on the ground, dappled light through the tree canopy, or a beautiful cloud formation.”
These moments of inspiration are captured in photos, which the abstract painter later uses in her studio to sketch the interplay of positive and negative space. What makes her process truly unique is her commitment to crafting her own paint from earth minerals she sources from meaningful locations.
“All my paint is made from earth minerals that I forage myself, each telling its own story. This is where my process begins—making paint from scratch. It has become the catalyst to beginning my paintings,” Lisa shares.
Creating Earth-Friendly Art with Handmade Mineral Paints
Lisa’s journey toward sustainability started in 2018 when she participated in "Veganuary." What began as a one-month challenge turned into a deeper commitment to learning about climate change, animal welfare, and environmental conservation.“After making all these changes at home, I realized I hadn’t made any significant changes in the studio for my practice,” the creator recalls.
Her research led her to discover the art of making paint from earth minerals, a practice that has since become a cornerstone of her work.
“Now, after five years, I have over 160 individual pigments, all carefully labeled and stored. I haven’t used shop-bought paint in over five years, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. There is something special about creating paint from the earth,” Lisa explains.
In addition to her handmade paints, Lisa-Marie Price uses off-cuts of linen for her canvases to minimize waste and reduce her carbon footprint. Sustainability, however, is not just a personal practice for her—it’s a message she hopes to share. “Educating people about why we should be conscious of what we use, what we buy, and what we actually need is the most important part,” she emphasizes.

How Lisa Balances Creativity with the Realities of Being an Artist
One of the biggest misconceptions about being a professional artist, Lisa-Marie Price says, is that artists spend all their time painting. “Nope,” she laughs.
“Lots of emails, admin, business meetings, networking, and now social media expectations too. Basically, we wear all the hats, all the time.”
That's why discovering Artwork Archive was a game-changer. “I’ve been using Artwork Archive for about four years now, and it has completely transformed the way I work,” she shares. Before Artwork Archive, the artist struggled to create her own systems. Now, everything is simplified.

Lisa’s Advice for Artists Just Starting Out
"Everyone is an individual, finding their path and own way through a very varied and vast profession,” the eco-conscious artist says.
For Lisa-Marie Price, staying true to oneself is essential.
“You don’t have to say yes to everything if it doesn’t sit right with your morals and ambitions. Don’t listen to everyone’s opinions about what is best for your art practice. You know best. Even well-meaning people can give the wrong advice for you,” she explains.
Her biggest advice to emerging artists? Trust your instincts and focus on what drives your creativity.
“Find your way, trust your own judgment, and enjoy what you do. Know your why—find the reason why you want to make art, the story behind it, and what you want to share with the world. How can you make the world a better place? Your art is important, and once you know your why, everything else will fall into place.”
