Spring Flowers

I was inspired to paint these colourful, impressionistic, spring blooms, flowering in generous swathes, in a friend's garden, as a cheery antidote to the winter weather and lockdown gloom. Ideal for Valentines Day, the gift of flowers in a piece of fine art will last much longer than their real life counterparts and cannot fail to lift the spirits of that special someone.

The painting process I used involves layers of acrylic paints, initially applied with a brush, onto a prepared and textured board surface and then layered with a palette knife, giving an impasto finish to the top layer of work. This adds to the feeling of rich color and texture, implying lush, verdant growth. You can definitely feel the promise of Spring!
