Multilayered textured painting, incorporating discarded items, including tissue and nylon mesh from citrus bags. The mesh echoes the ghost nets left in the ocean by the fishing industry, which cause so much damage to marine life.
The image was inspired by underwater photos by Belinda Collier-Morrow, taken in the WRFS area. I painted the Black Bar Soldierfish against the light streaming through the water outside the cavern, making a dramatic contra jour lighting scenario. The painting is to raise money for the White River Fish Sanctuary to help with the work they do to protect the reefs and the livelihood of the local fishermen.
