“THE GARDENER”, 1934 ORIGINAL REPOUSSE PLAQUE BY THE AMERICAN ARTIST AND SCULPTOR JACQUES SCHNIER (1898-1988)
This extremely rare repousse plaque, made of a gold-tone metal foil, is by the Romanian born American artist Jacques Schnier, a well known prominent sculptor from the Bay Area, California.
This repousse plaque, created in 1934, is an excellent example of the artist’s work. The plaque measures 7 9/16 x 5 1/4 inches, mounted on a brown color matboard backing and framed under glass. The original frame, with simple wood molding, measures 12 1/2 x 8 5/8 inches.
The back of the frame bears the San Francisco Museum of Art label: THE GARDENER BY JACQUES SCHNIER / Albert M. Bender Collection.
