The Artwork Archive team set out to find the best art opportunities, artist grants, and calls for entry for visual artists in the Southwestern United States.

Below you will find a list of the top artist residencies, international open calls, artist grants, exhibition opportunities and art competitions that we believe will benefit artists, specifically in the Southwest.

Artists eligible to compete are citizens of North America who reside in: Alaska, Alberta, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Manitoba, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Oklahoma, Oregon, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Yukon Territories, and all of Mexico, who are 2024 OPA members. Members who are citizens of the United States, Canada, or Mexico are eligible to participate regardless of where they live.

  • Entry Fee: Donation of $1 or more Instead of an application fee, we ask that you offer a gift in any amount to the Artist in Residence program through Grand Canyon Conservancy. While you will be asked to include proof of your gift in the application, your donation amount will not be shared with the review panel or relevant to the decision-making process.

Proposed projects must plan to engage people and focus on any element of the Grand Canyon’s environment, history, and/or culture within the following limitations:
No alteration (or damage to) the area (Leave No Trace).
Family-friendly and accessible to global audiences.
Artwork about Indigenous culture must be created or co-created by an Indigenous artist or organization. Relationships must be cultivated independently.
Artists must demonstrate a high level of professionalism in their application materials and communications.
To the best of their knowledge, artists must be physically able to work at high altitudes.
