One of a pair of zuijin (court guardians) from a set of hina ningyō (Girl’s Day dolls). The zuijin are traditionally depicted as two noble ministers charged with the protection of the Emperor and Empress figures. This figure depicts the sakon-e, the Minister of the Left, typically portrayed as an elder statesman symbolizing wisdom, education, and scholarly pursuits. He is armed with bow, arrows, and a sword, underscoring his protective function. In contrast, the Minister of the Right is conventionally depicted as a younger man, embodying vigor and martial readiness.
