Sasq’ets is of course real, indigenous people have been trying to tell us this for a few hundred years now. In the Pacific NW, the Euro descended folks call them "sasquatch". In NJ, they call them "Big Red Eyes". In this painting, "Horror of the Big Red Eyes", we see a family of Sasq'ets looking back at us, horrified that their peaceful forest has been descended upon by hunters. As someone who grew up in the wilds of Rhinebeck before it became all yuppified, I am drawing on a memory from when I was 16-17 of a city guy in full Elmer Fudd Plaid, pulling his shiny Lincoln Town Car to the side of the road so that he could stalk the deer in my backyard- not 50 feet from our house. I scared the deer away and told him to get off my lawn. I guess the Big Red Eyes are shyer than that. The central Unique Shape has its own meaning of course. The hunters invading that space, and the beings that they're upsetting, do too.
