The first ink/watercolor piece I've done in about 30 years. "Morro Castle" was a proper "ghost ship" with a terrible dark history.
In my opinion, "Ghosts" are the psychic manifestation of guilt, of injustice. We tell ourselves that tale of tragic injustice- and its consequences- all the time.
Tales of ghost ships are of tragic disaster, of terrible misfortune out on the wild infinite ocean, the vast unknown.
What haunts me the most about the early photos of her burned out hulk are the hordes of spectators, there on the beach for a looky-loo at the monstrous deathtrap.
We humans like to create our monsters and then poke them.
The crowds dissipated after a while, and years later the ship was sold for scrap.
The monsters still abide.
