This piece taps into my interests in hybridity, the monstrous feminine, sensuality, and folklore. The title, “Mayahuel’s Throne” comes from my exploration of cross-cultural fertility mythology. Mayahuel was an Aztec goddess of fertility who was sometimes depicted seated on a turtle.
