Right at the water's edge where the incoming waves break over the large round pebbles along the walk to the spa, you can hear a continuous rumble as the stones roll back and forth. I wanted to capture the energy of the waves rolling in on this rough sea day.
I painted them in a blocky contemporary style, using a mixture of brushwork and palette knife techniques. What makes this piece unique is the added texture, created with burlap coffee bags, cheesecloth and natural hemp string. These natural fibres add to the feel of rugged rocks.
The canvas is extremely good quality and was imported and custom made for the purpose. The piece can be hung without a frame and has deep sides painted a deep blue-grey.
