This Red Torch Lily is one of the waxy tropical flowers that grow in my garden in Jamaica. I painted it in splashy watercolour with touches of pastel and acrylic inks for added texture. The strong vertical lines help to give the feeling of vibrant growth and the rich, dramatic colour scheme gives a sense of the light, filtering down between the giant leaves that tower over you as you stand to admire the flowers.
The painting is quite impressionistic and has deep pinks, reds, crimsons, golds, greens and burgundy colours, applied with large brushes and sweeping brushstrokes. Ins were added with gestural marks. Painted on Bockingford heavyweight paper, with Artist quality paints, the materials are archival and guaranteed to last.
