Whooping Cranes

Whooping Cranes are the tallest birds in North America. These birds are painted almost to scale. These cranes were once hunted for their meat and feathers, dramatically reducing their numbers. They are further endangered now due to habitat loss and pollution. These two cranes are painted on a background of "tone shift" paints that change color, similar to oil slicks, when the observer looks at the paintings from different angles.
