The Age of Man

"Age of Man" refers to the Anthropocene, the geological epoch of man's impact on the planet. In this painting, a louche young man sits in a chair, seeming oblivious to the rising water around his feet. Surrounding him are the ghosts of extinct animals. His neck is draped with a python, a predatory animal often released into the wild by pet owners. Introduced pythons are rapidly consuming the natural wildlife ecosystem in the Florida Everglades and other habitat marshes of native birds and animals.
