The Bee Rocks were formed when "Cannonball concretions" were loosened from their matrix by flowing water, and these weird and wonderful matrices remained, slowly grown over by moss. The Lakota say that the 'cannonballs' belong to the Canoti [their version of the Fey], and that one should not mess with them. I'm not sure about the Bee Rocks- the mother stones. But I love them. And so did John Burroughs' beautiful granddaughter, Laura, who owns this now.
