These are personal pieces I created while trying to figure out how I could paint and parent at the same time. We had three babies under 2 years old when I painted these, so it was challenging to say the least. We called this time period as "living under the volcano."
This work is really about exploring ones relationship with creative spirit. Sometimes it's perceived as being really strong and insistent, while other times it's barely noticeable due to life's demands. Either way, faint or fierce it's always there, and I'm forever grateful for that.
I think it was Joseph Campbel who said "We live our lives in metaphors. If you're not sure of where you're going, just look at what you are doing." These words are always comforting to me whenever my creativity is challenged. They give me pause for examination and acceptance of the present moment.
