These Red and Gold cascading vines are related to the Bengal Clockvine in the Thunbergia family. My neighbour has an amazing display flowing down the side of her garage with the huge blooms glowing red and gold in the sunshine . The garage is all but hidden!
I painted them in watercolour with touches of pastel for added texture. The strong vertical lines help to give the feeling of vibrant growth and the dramatic lighting gives a sense of the light filtering down between the trees, high above.
The painting is quite impressionistic and has glowing golds, oranges, reds and purples in the shadows, applied with large brushes and sweeping brushstrokes.
Painted on Arches heavyweight paper, with Artist quality paints, the materials are archival and guaranteed to last.
