This contemporary, impressionistic interpretation of a Feather Duster Worm is completed in heavy body acrylics on canvas. The Feather Duster Worm is a beautiful, delicate, invertebrate occupant of the Caribbean coral reefs. Its almost transparent gills look like arms waving in the gentle current as it captures its lunch of plankton from the clear ocean waters. As a diver approaches, the feather duster usually retracts into its tube housing for protection and the show is over for a while.
These lovely creatures are threatened by construction and dirty, muddy river runoff from bad land management as they cannot survive being smothered in silt and algae.
The delicate whites, oranges and reds make a semi-abstract image against the blue-greens of the background water and reef.
