These Pink Medinilla Blooms are some of the largest tropical flowers that grow in my garden in Jamaica. I painted them in watercolour with touches of pastel for added texture. The strong vertical lines help to give the feeling of vibrant growth and the dramatic lighting gives a sense of the light filtering down between the curly dark leaves that form a canopy of the bush over you, as you stand to admire the flowers.
The painting is quite impressionistic and has soft, glowing pinks and greyish dark greens, applied with large brushes and sweeping brushstrokes. Painted on Arches heavyweight paper, with Artist quality paints, the materials are archival and guaranteed to last.
