“Vrlicka Kimono” was created after finding inspiration from the elaborate ceremonial garments that Jacobs saw on a trip to Romania. The choice of the kimono form derived from a parallel infatuation with the garments worn in Japanese ceremonies and theater. The form seems to be the classic compromise between abstract objectivity of geometry and the implied subjectivity of a piece of clothing made to fit an individual body. Several elements are borrowed from various cultures, the apron-like form in front is based on the dowry coin aprons worn in the Vrlicka area of Yugoslavia.
