- Elizabeth Barclay
Elizabeth Barclay resided on a farm on the Tonche Mountain located in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. Elizabeth would save pieces of silk from dresses and neckties to piece this quilt. Since it has never been put to daily use, the age of the fabrics account for the deterioration noticeable in some areas.
Elizabeth presented the quilt to her daughter, Olive Gulnac, who lived in Grover City, CA. Mrs. Gulnac added the quilt backing some 4-5 years after she received the hand-painted top and shared the information that a ribbon ruffle was frequently used in those days to finish silk quilts.
Red center squares, light and dark strips form Sunshine and Shadow setting. The top is made of silk fabric. A cotton floral print used on the back that is brought to the front on all four sides as a wide binding.
