The quilt is constructed from 1566 diamonds and hexagons, 10 butterflies in quilting design. The quilting took over 200 hours, over a four month span. Center is quilted mainly with slanted straight lines and the ten butterflies. Outer edges quilted in the hexagon and diamond pieces. It is signed and dated on back lower edge.
After a lifelong interest in art and a 15-year involvement with crewel embroidery, needlepoint, and cross-stitch, Claire Moses discovered quilt making in 1982. Moses was a member of the South Bay Quilters Guild who served in a number of executive positions. In the words of a sister guild member, “She was respected and loved for her cooperative spirit and general friendliness as well as her quilting skills.”
