Breach was born from Summer, early morning walks on the beaches of Nantucket. During the Summer of 2019, a family of Right Whales moved in close to the shore of the Island. They were often sighted breaching the water. Nantucket, which has a history of whaling, has been a source of inspiration in Rich's work for decades. Also inspired by the whaling paintings of JMW Turner, Breach presents an exuberant moment found in nature in Rich's signature, abstract expressionist approach to painting.
