J.J. Lankes is described as “one of America’s foremost graphic artists” and “arguably the first genuine woodcut artist America produced”. This wood engraving, created by the artist in 1934 and published in 1936 by the American Artist Group in New York, is an excellent example of the artist’s graphic work. The exact edition size is unknown, approximately 200 prints.
The image size measures 7 3/8 x 10 1/8 inches, printed on cream color hand-made laid paper. The full sheet with margins measures 12 x 16 1/8 inches. The wood engraving comes unframed.
