The piece was donated to the City by the Thornton Women's Club in honor of their 40th Anniversary as a club. The sculpture honors former club member Esther Jewell as well as all women concerned with the development and growth of Thornton. The statue was jointly funded by an SCFD grant, a donation from the Thornton Development Authority, and fundraising completed by the Thornton Women’s Club.
