'Rocky Seascape Overlook,' by James Cobb, Oil on Canvas Painting

This oil on canvas by artist James Cobb depicts a rocky coastal overlook featuring a white home perched in the middle ground with a gray, looming mountain range extending across the background. Cobb highlight the rich shades of the waters blue through the work using his plate knife to express the choppy and rugged nature of the water. The predominant colors in the painting are deep blues of the water and greys/browns of the rocks.

James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
