'New Mexico Fall,' by James Cobb, Oil on Canvas Painting
This oil on canvas by artist, James Cobb, features the desert landscape of autumn in New Mexico. In the foreground, the tops of chamisa bushes are flecked with yellow and green as they begin to bloom while the low growing sage is nestled underneath. In the background, clouds cast the mountain range in a purple shadow.
James Cobb maintained a studio and residence in Taos, New Mexico where he drew inspiration for this and other works. James Cobb works primarily now out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
