'Shack on the Bayou,' by James Cobb, Oil on Masonite Painting
This oil on masonite painting by James Cobb features a stand-alone home on the edge of a waterway. The house's reflection melts into the water where the colors of blue, gray, and purple blend together. In the background a light blue sky hides behind the vibrant green vegetation of a bayou. Cobb drew inspiration for this scene from a trip to Florida where he passed through the Louisiana countryside.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
