Depot Dimensions - A call for art From Mitchell Area Arts

Public Art at the Crossroads of History and Community

We invite artists to submit artwork to be displayed in a dynamic, six-sided sculptural work to be installed near Mitchell, South Dakota’s historic train depot, where Mitchell was born. This is a unique opportunity to create vibrant, visually engaging art that reflects the spirit of movement, place, and public connection. While there is no fixed theme, the artwork should be welcoming, bold, and suitable for a diverse public audience. Mitchell, SD is home to the internationally famous Corn Palace, where every year, tourists from around the world come to see the annually updated Corn Palace Murals. 

Artwork must be no older than 2 years old, unique to the call and not in use or sale in any other locations. The artwork, if chosen, becomes the property of the Mitchell Area Council of the Arts dba Mitchell Area Arts and may be used in marketing, promotional, and other uses.  Artist must be able to legally sign their permission for use, and that they are the sole owners and creators of the artwork.  Artwork should be presented for reproduction as 24" by 68" display with 300 dpi.  Artists should ensure their submissions are of sufficient resolution and proportion to accommodate this final print size.

Submitted artwork will be presented and viewed by the public and should be considered appropriate for all ages to view.   The MAA reserves the right to disqualify any submitted artwork that is deemed, at its sole discretion, to be inflammatory, offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate for public display. No reimbursements for submissions will be issued.  Complete the Artist Agreement & Waiver. 

Artwork must be available at the time of submission, scanned or photographed with high quality and meet the digital requirements for reproduction onto display boards. All artwork must be original in nature and be the sole intellectual property of the artist submitting the work. Award will only be issued in the sum as stated and will not be broken into multiple payments.
