The Chronic Pain Project hosts exhibits with art created by people living with chronic pain. Any medium is welcome. Art is not juried, but must adhere to the rules and guidelines below. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Artists must identify as living with chronic pain. 
  • Artists must be over age 18. 
  • Artists can live anywhere in the world. 
  • Artists are responsible for the cost of shipping. (Please reach out for support if cost is prohibitive for you.)

Application Requirements:

  • Art must be two-dimensional and MUST be sent ready to hang. Art not ready to hang may be omitted from the show. 
  • Chronic Pain Project does not accept explicit content that may not be suitable for all audiences. This particular show is in a recovery space, please keep that in mind). This may or may not include the following themes:
    • Hate in imagery or speech
    • Nudity
    • Gratuitous violence
    • Explicit content
    • Offensive content that causes public discomfort
    • Political content
    • Discrimination
    • Keep it PG-13 - no drugs, sex, alcohol

By submitting work for exhibition:

Release of Liability.
I (the Artist) understand that my artwork may be installed in high-traffic locations or other places with public access and little or no supervision. Artwork is installed with minor theft deterrent elements. I understand that most exhibit sites (“Hosting Entities”) and the Chronic Pain Project carry no insurance or other coverage against damage, destruction, theft, or other loss to the artwork. I agree for myself and my heirs that I will not hold Hosting Entities or Chronic Pain Project or any of their directors, officers, members, staff, employees, volunteers, assigns, agents, contractors, and representatives (“Agents”) responsible in any way for damaged or stolen artwork, including damage or loss caused in whole or in part by a third party or in whole or in part by the negligence of Chronic Pain Project or Hosting Entities or any of their Agents, other than that which results from the gross negligence, wanton or willful misconduct, or reckless or intentional conduct of Chronic Pain Project or Hosting Entities or any of their Agents. Nothing in this release imposes liability upon Chronic Pain Project or Hosting Entities or any of their Agents for any losses or damages caused solely by third parties. 

Acknowledgment of Risk. The artist acknowledges that artwork is displayed in high-traffic, public venues and understands that only minor theft deterrent measures are in place. The artist accepts these conditions as a known risk of participation.

No Insurance Coverage.
Neither The Chronic Pain Project nor the exhibition site carries insurance or provides any other coverage for submitted artwork. Artists are encouraged to obtain their own coverage if desired.

Artist Responsibility.
The artist confirms they are the sole owner of the submitted work, or have obtained all necessary permissions to submit it, and that it does not infringe upon the rights of any third party.

Promotional Use. The artist grants The Chronic Pain Project a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to photograph, reproduce, and share images of the submitted artwork for promotional purposes directly related to the exhibition, including but not limited to social media, website, press materials, and fundraising. The artist will be credited wherever reasonably possible. This right does not extend to commercial sale or licensing of the artwork itself. 

By submitting artwork, the artist acknowledges they have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
