kinētikos: of motion - Kinetic Art Exhibition From Windgate Museum of Art

The Windgate Museum of Art at Hendrix College in Conway, AR announces an open call for our Spring 2025 exhibition, kinētikos: of motion. This group exhibition focuses on kinetic art – works that involve and depend upon movement, color, sound and other sensory experiences for effect. Art that incorporates independent movement is welcome. Art with interactive or participatory elements is preferred. Selected artists will receive a $1000 honorarium. 

The kinētikos: of motion exhibition supports a very broad perspective on kinetic art, or rather kinetic energy in art. Real motion, the illusion of motion, and the feeling of motion must be an essential attribute of the aesthetic content of the artwork. The work in the exhibition will demonstrate the interconnectedness of art and technology, and leverage the human fascination with movement. This call is open to artists with work located in the United States. Entries are due by December 14, 2025. Selected artists will be notified by December 19, 2025. 

Applicants are asked to submit images of their work along with title, materials information, and dimensions. A description or statement about the piece is optional. This information may include the artistic inspiration for the piece, operating instructions, use limitations, etc. 

Shipping and Insurance

Inbound shipping costs of selected work is the responsibility of the artist. Artwork is insured by the WMA while on exhibition and during return shipping. An extensive loan contract will be secured with all chosen artists. WMA will only accept work that is sent in reusable crates or cartons, unless otherwise arranged in writing. If the original crate is damaged, we will notify the artist and repair if minor. Condition reports will be made by WMA upon the arrival and departure of artwork. 

Publicity and PR

Publicity occurs through the Hendrix College marketing office and the WMA via contacts and a comprehensive social media and paid advertising campaign. We recommend that all artists have a website and a Facebook / Instagram handle. Multiple educational events and tours are scheduled for the duration of the exhibition.
