Mid-20th century geisha doll with a silk-covered face, dressed in traditional attire. The figure is mounted on a rectangular wooden base, accompanied by a paper lantern positioned to one side.
Geisha (meaning "person of art") are skilled artists who masterfully perform traditional arts, enhancing parties and banquets with their talents in dance, music, singing, and various forms of entertainment. They rose to prominence during the Edo period (1603-1868), flourishing in the pleasure districts of major cities and adopting different names based on the region. In Kyoto, they were known as geiko (meaning "art child").
