Statement
The Western American landscape is the place I feel most at home and at peace. Much of my free time is spent in the wild, discovering new plants, encountering animal and insect life, and encountering vistas as grand as our most iconic national parks or as simple as a desert arroyo. Through the use of large scale and vibrant color, my art allows me to depict on canvas what I cannot take from the wilderness. Starting with a primary color underpainting, I add layers of more natural color to my large scale portraits of native plant life to create a realistic portrayal. Unusual viewpoints and abstract backgrounds suggesting a sense of place result in dynamic compositions.
