Artist: Roger Manley (American, b. 1952)
American curator, folklorist, filmmaker, and photographer. Manley graduated from Davidson College (1974), then spent two years living in the Australian Outback with Aboriginal people. His photographs include factory workers, Native Americans, prisoners, Palestinians, "outsider" artists, and more. He is a recipient of the NEA Artists Fellowship and the NEH Scholars Fellowship, as well as several other honors. He has authored many books about artists and their environments. In the summer of 2023, Manley retired from the Gregg Museum of Art and Design at North Carolina State University where he served as director for 13 years.
