Miguel Rodriguez is a Las Vegas artist with a substantial public art practice in addition to his personal studio work. He received his MFA from UNLV in 2004 and currently teaches in the university’s Department of Art. Explaining the reasoning behind his vivid and expressive artworks, he writes, “I use humor and color to filter difficult ideas like death, addiction, anxiety and depression in order to subvert superficial tropes or easy answers. These artworks are autobiographical, but are ultimately intended to provide the viewer with an opportunity to peer into the depths of their own inner workings, to see themselves reflected back.”
