Artist Lynn Goldstein’s atmospheric landscapes blend abstraction with natural forms.
Goldstein creates abstract paintings inspired by nature, particularly the hills, trees, and reflective waters that evoke her childhood in the mountains of southern West Virginia. Her work emphasizes a vibrant interplay of light, shadow, and intuitive color choices that bring imagined worlds to life.
Her passion for art began early, but her journey was not without challenges. She faced discouragement from college teachers, a childhood illness, and the death of her father before she finally shared her talent widely. Her mother, who was an artist herself, was Lynn’s first teacher and introduced her to the Asian aesthetic through flower arranging, sparking a love for minimalism that continues to influence her work.
“My process is rooted in exploring the passage of time and the beauty of imperfection. I’m drawn to textures—whether in weathered frescoes, crumbling walls, or nature itself—and strive to emulate these in my paintings. Using tools like trowels, scrapers, and sandpaper, I embrace unpredictability, allowing each piece to evolve organically and reveal its own story.”
Her work has been displayed at museums, including the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and also at institutions such as the National Cathedral in Washington, D. C., and the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. Additionally, her work is in the collection of the Schar Cancer Institute, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and the United States Department of State, among other public and government organizations.
