These White Bird of Paradise flowers are some of the largest tropical plants that grow in my garden, in Jamaica. I painted them in watercolour with touches of pastel for added texture. The strong vertical lines help to give the feeling of vibrant growth and the dramatic lighting gives a sense of the light filtering down between the towering dark leaves that form a fan shape high above.
The painting is quite impressionistic and has soft, glowing oranges and greyish dark greens and blues, applied with large brushes and sweeping brushstrokes.
Painted on Arches heavyweight paper, with Artist quality paints, the materials are archival and guaranteed to last.
