"Hybrid Element IV (Raw Beryllium)" is the fifth large format artwork in the new OCULUS II Series by Ohr Lucé™️. Element IV continues the artist's exploration of the interplay between the natural elements of the terrestrial and celestial spheres and minimalist artistic abstraction. This composite media piece measures 150 x 150 cm on synthetic silk and is encased in a stainless steel frame.
The artwork features a striking gradient (created from several long-exposure photographs of rare earth elements) that transitions from deep, cool shades to warm, vibrant tones (derived from the raw colour of Beryllium, one of the rarest alkaline metals). This primary gradient, combined with the vertical composition and the subtle, almost ethereal quality of the other abstract elements, creates a sense of depth and fluidity. The central vertical line, rendered almost luminescent, acts as a focal point, drawing the eye and anchoring the composition. The title, "Raw Beryllium," references the element beryllium, known for its rarity, strength and lightweight properties. This element choice underscores the artwork's exploration of the inherent properties of the natural materials that make up our planet and their relationship to human perception. Just as raw Beryllium is extremely rare and unique, each viewer's experience of "Element IV" as an abstract landscape, is unique.
Delving into the intrinsic connection between humanity and the fundamental elements of nature through the manipulation of long-exposure photography, Lucé captured the inherent beauty and dynamic energy of this natural metal, which is mirrored in the choice of metal framing. This piece's interplay of industrial and organic materials underscores the complexity of our interaction with the natural world, highlighting its fragility and resilience as the urban environment becomes more industrialised.
The artist's use of naturally exposed colour gradients and blurred imagery emphasises the transient and mutable nature of our visual experience. Employing various techniques (precise placement for shape and colour) to manipulate our sensory perception, Lucé demonstrates his ability to create depth and dimension through expert control of light and colour. The work showcases the artist's technical skill and invites a deeper contemplation of the elemental forces that shape our existence. In "Element IV", Lucé continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, bridging the gap between the natural and the industrial, the ephemeral and the eternal.
