"Hybrid Element II (Solar Winds)", the second work from the OCULUS II Series, is an evocative exploration of elemental forces balanced with minimalist purity. The work is an understated juxtaposition of visual elements that combine to create an impactful emotional response, captured through a sophisticated composite of long exposure images.
The artwork is meticulously printed on synthetic silk, adding a unique texture and depth to the visual experience. The razor thin steel frame encapsulates the piece, lending it a modern, industrial edge that contrasts beautifully with the ethereal quality of the silk.
The piece is composed of four long exposure photographs amalgamated into a seamless continuum. This technique not only emphasises the temporal aspect of the subject matter but also introduces a dynamic interplay of light and form, reminiscent of the natural phenomena it seeks to represent. The subtle gradations and bloom of colour and light evoke the fluidity and motion of solar winds, creating a mesmerising visual narrative that invites viewers to contemplate the unseen forces that shape our environment (one can even feel the heat when gazing into the subtle bloom of colour radiating from the zenith of the piece) .
Ohr Lucé™️ has a profound affinity for humanity's intrinsic connection to the natural elements. Through the use of colour, form and composition, Lucé captures the ephemeral essence of a hot summer wind storm, translating this invisible force into a tangible, visual form. The use of long exposure photography allows for the recording of movement over time, embodying the continuous and ever-changing nature of the elements, yet the minimalist approach challenges the viewer to perceive beyond the subtle hints of subject, forcing us to look beyond the the immediate and the visible. The result is an artwork that encourages a deeper appreciation for the fundamental characteristics that sculpt our world.
Ohr Lucé's™️ work stands at the confluence of abstraction and minimalist representation, drawing parallels to the practices of artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans and Hiroshi Sugimoto, who similarly engage with the themes of temporality and the sublime in their photographic works. Tillmans' exploration of abstract forms and Sugimoto's long exposure seascapes both resonate in Lucé's Hybrid Element works, where the abstraction of natural phenomena is achieved through meticulous photographic processes, arrangement of colour and precise arrangement of elements. Lucé challenges traditional classifications, positioning his work within a contemporary dialogue on the materiality and perception of art while promoting the concepts of mindfulness, reflection and awareness for societal and environmental issues.
