From the Artist: Pacific Twilight was the first piece in a continuing series of horizon landscapes. This series has been very successful with regard to popularity. I never have these quilts for long in my possession. The subject splits between landscapes and seascapes with the horizon line playing a dominant role in the composition.
Pacific Twilight was created after one of my yearly trips to the southern pacific coast of Mexico where our mornings began with a long boat ride at morning twilight out into the ocean to fish for tuna.
The construction process appears simple to the eye, but to achieve the depth and mood of the work is complex. Over the years these pieces have evolved with my growing expertise in the manipulation of fabric and the use of painting mediums. I am generally known for my figurative work, but always come back to these wonderful land and seascapes that move me. There is a seascape on my board right now! It is being done for a television series about stitching using an “in-table” long arm machine.
