Log Cabin Quilt (Barn Raising variation)

- Hedwig Smith
The donor states that the quilt top was pieced by slaves during the Civil War but was quilted by her mother, Mrs. Hedwig Smith, at a later date. The madder-style brown prints were in fashion for dresses and scrap bag quilts of the 1860s, 1870s, and 1880s, but the scale of the design is unusual for this period.
