ALL 🦇 FACTS:
1. There are over 1,400 species of bats worldwide & found nearly everywhere except extreme deserts & polar regions.
2. The flying squirrel can only fly for short distances, so bats are the only true flying mammal!
3. Like cats, bats spend a lot of time grooming & keeping themselves clean which also helps control parasites.
4. We wouldn't have bananas, avocados, nuts, cacao and MORE if it weren't for bats who help in pollinating them.
5. They act as a natural pest control & thus save farmers millions a year by helping them rely less on toxic pesticides.
6. Bats are inspiring medical models with about 80 medicines deriving from plants that rely on bats for their survival.
7. Echolocation originated from how bats navigate & has helped scientists develop navigational aids for the blind.
8. Research on them has even led to advances in vaccines!
9. At least 13 species are endangered and more are threatened.
10. Bats and all other animals are not to blame for any of our misfortunes. It's our ever increasing interference, lack of education, and respect regarding these wild creatures that's the root of the problem.
