🌼 Day 8: SMALL - Mehndi (Henna) Flowers
4"x6", Ink Art, Framed
💕 When a South Asian bride gets married, it's tradition to have a mehndi party which is akin to an innocent bridal shower. The purpose is to celebrate the bride by adorning her with bridal mehndi on her hands & feet in preparation for the big day. Small flowers are found all over mehndi designs! It's a typical tradition to hide the grooms name within it as well.
🎨 Mehndi is another art form I have had a passion for since I was a kid. I would literally beg my Mom to apply it on my hand especially on my birthdays. She did it the old school way of using a stick to create line designs.
🙌🏽 During 2020, I was finally able to get my hands on some mehndi cones & take some courses from well-known mehndi artists to learn how to apply it to myself!
😵💫 I did think about doing some mehndi today, but I was a bit drained after yesterdays artwork & all those past thoughts & emotions that came along with it that I'm aiming to detach away from. I also thought that maybe I could just sketch out a full hand design on paper, but even that too felt like it would be a laborious task.
💕 I realized that I didn't have the full blown mental energy to get my visions down as I would on a typically vibrant day, so I should show myself some louder love & compassion today.
🤙🏽 It took me quite a while to get started, but I ended up with this piece of artwork that could be found within a typical mehndi design.
🤔 Why isn't it colored?
- It felt more realistic to what an actual mehndi design would look like
- I was kind of having an Inktober moment
