“Saturday mornings” is an experimental short video work which emulates the inner workings of the mind grappling with divergent realities. Delayed, deferred, disruptive intrusions on the mind, melding fears with contextual realities — layering, abstracting, texturizing and distorting — blending anxieties with tangible truths. The work creates juxtapositions, interweaving imagery from an everyday Canadian context with open-source war cartoons from the 1940’s, to juxtapose an atmosphere reminiscent of a quintessential, late-20th century childhood Saturday morning. The short video work presents the mind as an echo chamber where past and present, reality and fiction, intermingle and amplify. The blending of anxieties with tangible truths attempts to mirror how the mind tends to magnify our worries.
