Aberdeen, located in the Eastern Cape Karoo, has been declared a conservation town due to its abundance of classic, old-style Karoo architecture. The character of the town is carefully preserved, making a drive—or better yet, a leisurely walk—through its quiet streets feel like a stepping back in time.
This painting... "Old Aberdeen", portrays one such relic: a timeworn corner shop that speaks to the faded beauty and enduring stillness of this old Karoo town. Hopefully the bleached walls, simple lines, and sense of old nostalgia, reflect both the charm and the solitude that define Aberdeen's historic heart.
This was commissioned by an old friend from decades ago. "Brendan... thanks for an interesting brief taking me out of my comfort zone. Really enjoyed doing this for you."
