This is one of my most favourite parts of our far away Karoo...it's the central part. Somewhere between Middleberg and Graaf Reinet.

I love the gates. And more especially the cattle gates that are so typical of our far away Karoo. They're like a portal from the "Here" into the far distant "There".

So often, beyond the gate is a call back the past. A remnant of a memory...of a place...of an artefact from yesteryear, crumbling into the dry dust of a hard land. Hopefully this old barn is'nt going to become one of those.

It looks like the gate already has!
