Biography
Beverly Louise Stewart wanted to be a teacher from the time she was five years old. However, once she got in the classroom, Stewart realized “she wanted a way to impact each student individually.” So, in 1985, she left her teaching career an began tutoring students one-on-one at her kitchen table. ‘Back to Basics,’ now boasts more than 90 employees and has deals with multiple school districts and government accounts, and has expanded to tutor adults. The company offers “tutoring in over 60 subjects, professional development, translating and interpreting in 21 languages, speech therapy, behavior specialists, reading specialists, paras, ELL services, homebound services, RTI support, psycho-educational testing, and test prep.”
Stewart was named to the top 100 of the John Maxwell Transformational Leadership Award. Back to Basics earned a 2010 Better Business Bureau of Delaware Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics, and Stewart was awarded the Small Business Administration Entrepreneurial Success Award.
