ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Embryonic
Embryonic brings the rough edges of Père and Mère into a more cohesive and solid form, symbolizing the unification of these energies into something new. The gold gloss now feels more contained, its shape clearer and more defined, nestled within the expansive matte blues that cradle and protect it. This piece represents the transformative moment when the chaotic and fragmented energies of creation find harmony, forming the foundation of life in its most vulnerable and promising state.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating Père (Father), Mère (Mother), and Embryonic was a deeply personal exploration of my own origins—an abstract journey into the forces that shaped me and the process of becoming. These works reflect the tension and beauty in creation, where the vibrant gold gloss symbolizes the spark of life, bursting forth with energy, while the matte blues evoke the nurturing, expansive spaces that hold and support it.
Each piece embodies a chapter in this story: Père conveys structure and initiation, Mère captures flow and nurturing, and Embryonic represents the fragile, transformative potential of creation itself. The interplay of gloss and matte finishes emphasizes the dualities inherent in life—vitality and stillness, creation and containment, chaos and order.
In the context of Nevertheless, She Persisted, these works honor persistence as an act of self-discovery and expression. They celebrate the resilience of life and the power of creativity to transcend challenges. For me, to create is to persist—not just against external barriers, but as a way to honor the act of becoming whole, of existing fully as an artist, a woman, and a person.
