Artist: Nancy Stentz
The evolution of my career as an artist began at an early age and I can't imagine that the influence coming from my parents wasn't a big factor in the direction my art has taken. Both of my parents were professional jazz musicians and their lifestyle added to my view of art.
Prior to the personal artwork that I am creating, I had a successful career as a graphic artist with my main focus on hand-built letterforms and logo design.
I approach my paintings in much the same way I designed, with balance, negative space and visual composition guiding my work.
As I typically worked in black and white as a graphic designer, I still tend to continue working in shades of grey though color has been making its way into my work of late.
I use mixed media, found scrap, old manuscripts and aged correspondence and hand script in my work. Anything and everything have influence on my art and with each piece, I am constantly inventing and evolving.
