Large-scale, oil painting by Michael Rich from the Winter of 2021. Open and bright passages of white and cream colors are infused with sweeping branches and passages of greens, reds, yellows and blues. This abstract painting is a hopeful one, with color insisting itself on the open spaces that seem to be light and air. Michael is inspired by the mid-century modern painters, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, and Willem DeKooning. Of more relevance here, may be the paintings of JMW Turner, whose seascapes and landscape paintings are often dominated by largely spacious and light passages.
